OK, well I don’t really condone eating makeup. For one, it would make you sick and two, it’s a total waste of product. With that said, I like the message.
I heard a quote the other day that I loved. It was so simple but it really struck me. It was said by the very witty Robert on “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Not where you thought I was going, right? He said “It’s nice to be important but more important to be nice”. It stopped me dead in my tracks when all I was expecting was a funny sitcom rerun to watch while I ate lunch.
Hearing this made me think about how it’s nice to be beautiful on the outside, but it’s so much more important to be beautiful on the inside. Now granted, my blog is designed to teach you how to ‘get gorgeous on a budget’, it’s actually more than that. It’s about building the right kind of confidence and attitude. The exterior appearance is the bonus. I want to arm you with all the tools to tackle that big beautiful world with confidence. Confidence not cockiness. Two very different things.
How many times have you come across someone who is beautiful but has a horrible attitude or thinks that they’re the cat’s pajamas and has no problem telling everyone so? I don’t care how beautiful someone is on the outside, if their inside sucks, who cares?
You know what’s beautiful? Someone who loves their life, the people around them and takes every opportunity to tell them so. The person who soaks up all of the possibilities life has to offer without fear. The young woman who gives her spare time to help others because it‘s ‘what you do‘. The new mother who’s been up all night with a sick baby but wouldn’t have it any other way. The woman who has no hair after receiving chemo for cancer but still has a sparkle in her eyes because she’s happy to be alive for one more day. And so on and so on…
Having the right hair, beautiful skin, or a great outfit is not what makes you beautiful but it does help to build your confidence. Take that part, with being beautiful on the inside and you have a winning combination. I’m not trying to be sappy or too serious but it’s important to remember. Do you think that miserable person you encountered today feels good about being rude? I mean maybe but not likely. Don’t be mad at them for their actions. Feel sorry for them that they choose to live that way. If you feel good inside, that shows on your face and in your actions. That’s beautiful. Every day when you wake you up you determine how your day is going to go. You can roll with the punches or let them beat you down.
That is the best gift we are given every single day is the ability to choose our actions. Smile at strangers, hold a door for someone, compliment someone genuinely even if it’s something small. Most importantly, remind yourself of what wonderful things make you, well…YOU!
Here’s your homework. Now don’t laugh when you read this. Years ago I went to a life coach and she made me do this. It seemed silly to me but I promise it works! Take an index card and write down 5 positive things you know to be true about yourself. I want you to stick it on the visor in your car. Every time you are at a red light, or park your car, take the card and read it to yourself. You’re laughing right? Don’t laugh until you try it. How can other people believe in you, if you don’t believe in yourself?
I’ll admit, I am not always happy but I do my best to put my best foot forward, deal with what I have going on in life during that moment, laugh at myself and above all else, smile.
That’s it! I promise tomorrow will be frivolous. I’ll talk about braids or nail polish. Haha! Make it a great night! (Now go get your index card…do it…right now!)
